Accommodations in Guadeloupe

 

Vacationers can choose from a variety of accommodations while visiting Guadeloupe and its neighboring islands. From inexpensive inns and rental properties, to fairly priced family-owned establishments, to exclusive hotels and luxurious resorts, this French Caribbean country has it all.

It is estimated that there are more than 11,000 rooms available throughout Guadeloupe. This includes hotel and resort guest rooms, as well as apartment and rental villas. Lodgings in Guadeloupe, as on the majority of Caribbean islands, are considerably cheaper during the off tourist season, which lasts from mid-April to December. During this time, rates can be reduced by as much as 20 to 40 percent.

All hotels and accommodations in the archipelago add a 10 percent service charge to the final bill, and there is also a government room tax, which will vary from place to place, but is generally about $1(USD) to $1.50(USD) per day. Ask your hotel concierge or call ahead to find out whether the fees are included in the price of your stay.

Location

The highest concentration of accommodations in Guadeloupe are located in the town of Grand-Terre, many of which enjoy beach-front access.  There are a number of attractions in the area to keep vacationers busy on non-beach days, as well as a wide offering of restaurants.  Nearby Ste. Anne is also home to numerous beach front properties, such as La Toubana Hotel Spa.

To the west is Basse- Terre, which is popular for watersports like whale watching, windsurfing, sailing, and fishing.  Look for hotels particularly in the coastal city of Deshaies.

Hotels

All-inclusive accommodations in Guadeloupe are limited, but at least one, namely Club Med La Caravelle, offers a wide range of amenities in one all-inclusive price. Lodgings at Club Med cost about $1,405(USD) for a 7-day stay, and guests have access to most of their travel needs in one place. Hotels are located on Guadeloupe's mainland and on the outlying islands. The cheapest accommodations start as low as $30(USD), and mid-priced lodgings range from $60 to $90(USD), while luxurious rooms and suites can be as high as $120(USD) or more. Condo & Villa Rentals

Rental properties are another accommodation option on Guadeloupe. Villas and vacation apartments are a great form of autonomous and inexpensive lodgings, perfect for tourists traveling with families or in large groups. Rental villas and apartments are also ideal for travelers who plan on visiting Guadeloupe for an extended period of time. The cost of rental properties varies from about $250(USD) all the way up to $5,000(USD) per week, depending on the type of housing and its amenities.

The absolute cheapest place to stay on the islands has to be in the national parks campsites, where you will probably pay a small park entry fee or the cost of renting camping equipment. Personal Considerations

The number of other factors to consider when you choose your Guadeloupe accommodations can be endless, especially when you are planning a trip for a large party.   Finding a property that will please everyone can be hard, but Guadeloupe has plenty for you to choose from.

Party Size

Your choice of accommodations will depend upon the group you are traveling with. If you're traveling alone, a high rise hotel or boutique might suit you just fine. If you're heading out on a romantic getaway, an intimate inn will make for the best lodgings, while groups of adult friends looking for a good time may want to look for a  resort, where they can get rowdy without offending small eyes and ears. Families will find a number of hotels and resorts that cater to children by offering kids clubs and playgrounds – plus babysitting services for when the grownups need a little time away. If you're traveling with a large group, a villa rental or property with suites large enough to accommodate your party will be the best option.

Interests

Most travelers look for lodgings close to the attractions they want to visit.  There are some resorts that cater to a specific type of interest, for example, Golf Village Hotel is designed specifically for guests who like to play golf.

Length of Stay

The amount of time you plan to stay on the island will play a role in your choice of accommodations as well. If you are like most guests, your stay will be around a week long or less.  This type of traveler will find hotel, inn, or all-inclusive resort to be their best option.  Travelers staying for an extended period of time may like to choose lodgings that feel more like home. This is why a villa or condo rental, where you will likely have a separate bedroom, laundry facilities, and kitchen, will be a good choice.

Quality

When selecting a hotel based upon the given Star Rating, it is important to know that just because a locale has a low rating does not mean it is going to be inexpensive; likewise, the highest rated hotel may not be the most expensive option out there. More often, the price of the lodging has to do with its location, the size of the rooms, the amenities offered, and even the popularity of the name. After deciding upon your budget, you may be able to find a range of options in different ratings to select from.

One and Two Stars

Guadeloupe's 1 Star accommodations are going to be smaller than most, with few amenities, and probably drab décor.  The hotel may be locally owned by the same person who operates the facility.  A 1 Star is perfect for guests who are not planning on spending much time cooped up in their rooms. Guadeloupe's 1 Star properties include Saint John Perse, La Maison Creole, and Hotel Village Soleil.

A little bit larger, the 2 Star properties in Guadeloupe will be small to medium-sized, though still with minimalist amenities, and not the most well-thought out decorations.  These properties are often locally owned, but may also be a part of a national chain.  Some will have room service and perhaps a restaurant or bar on-site. Guadeloupe's 2 Star properties include Residence Pointe Batterie and Hotel Arwak.  One and 2 Star properties can be reserved for as low as $30(USD) a night, and up to just over $100(USD).

Three Stars

With much more spacious accommodations, the 3 Star hotels have nicer amenities as well.  The rooms will be well-appointed, though maybe not too fancy, and the service will be recommendable.  Expect a restaurant or bar, room service, and maybe a few extras like the use of non-motorized watersports equipment. Guadeloupe's 3 Star properties include Le Vallon, Le Meridien La Cocoteraie, and La Creole Beach Hotel.  Three star hotels can vary greatly when it comes to price, coming in at as low as $75(USD) to near $500(USD) at times.

Four Stars

Well-appointed, large, and definitely comfortable, the 4 Star properties are considered to be above average lodgings.  Extras here will likely include flat screen televisions, imported linens, or jacuzzi tubs. Guadeloupe's 4 Star properties includes Auberge de la Vielle Tour.  $150 to $800(USD) is the range at which you might find the prices of 4 Star hotels in Guadeloupe.

Five Stars

It doesn't get any better than a 5 Star resort in Guadeloupe.  Linens and mattresses that call out to you, painstakingly chosen décor, a staff ready to pamper, and an all around luxury experience is the name of the game at a 5 Star property.
