Activities in Guadeloupe

A vacation in Guadeloupe can be spent entirely in a beach chair, with your feet in the sand, the sun warming your skin, and an icy drink cooling you off.

You can also plan to fill each day with as many activities as you can without going completely overboard.  Whichever route you choose to take, Guadeloupe can accommodate your every desire.

Watersports

There is no better place than an island in the Caribbean to immerse yourself in watersports.  You can take it simple, and spend some time swimming and body surfing in the waters of Guadeloupe's beaches.  Kayaking, windsurfing, jet-skiing, and sailing are options as well.  Many vacationers, however, come to Guadeloupe specifically to participate in at least one of three very specific sports: fishing, snorkeling, and diving

Anglers have their choice of fly fishing and deep sea fishing, snorkelers have 150 miles of coastline at their disposal, and divers will not want to miss a chance to dive out by Pigeon Island, an area that Jacques Cousteau called one of the top ten dive spots in the world.

Sports

Hiking and horseback riding...

Guadeloupe's land-based sports include golf and tennis.  There is only one golf course in the entire country, but it is well known, and well-kempt: the Golf de St-François.  A game of tennis is easier to plan, as most hotels and resorts have courts of their own, free of charge to guests.

Hiking and horseback riding are a few other excellent activities that will both allow you to get your heart rate up, as well as tour the country and see the sites.   You can even catch a few spectator sports that are popular in Guadeloupe, such as football (soccer) and cricket.

Shopping

A Guadeloupe vacation isn't complete without a few extra items being stowed away in your luggage.  Some of the best souveniers are the most unique ones, items that you won't be able to find anywhere else.  Your best shot at finding something like this is by visiting craft booths at open air markets and during festivals.  Here you'll be able to find woven clothing and rugs, pottery, woodworking, and more.  There are also plenty of high-end, luxury items directly from France available at low rates in local shops. Events and Festivals

Some vacationers take a trip to Guadeloupe specifically to attend an event such as the annual Carnival celebration, which takes place before Ash Wednesday.  Even if you don't plan your trip around an event, chances are there will be one going on while you are there.  Make sure to check the paper while you're in the country, or ask the concierge at your hotel.  Attending an event or festival is a great way to mingle with locals, pick up some handmade crafts, and sample great food. Nightlife

If you love to dance, you've picked the right country to visit, because the people of Guadeloupe love to dance the night away.  There are dozens of nightclubs that range from carefree to high energy, and many bars that host live bands and have dance floors as well.  If you prefer to watch other people perform, a few theaters exist that put on live shows.  There are also two casinos on the island for your gambling pleasure. And there is more to discover as you make your way through each day.  Your vacation in Guadeloupe can be as relaxed or action packed as you want it to be.  Simply being aware of your options is a great way to begin planning the trip of a lifetime.
