Guadeloupe's Nightlife

The people of Guadeloupe love to dance, in fact they are known for it, and even claim to have invented la biguine -- a dance that Martinique also claims as their own. 

Your night on the town can begin with a nice dinner at your hotel's restaurant, or a locally owned spot, then move to the bar for a few drinks, and end with you dancing alongside the locals at a nightclub.  If you prefer to stay closer to “home,” resorts often offer nightly entertainment such as local musicians and dance troupes. 

Bars

Auberge de la Vieille Tour is a piano bar that features varied entertainment on weekends.  Their menu features a variety of cocktails and rums. 

For peace, love, and a couple of drinks after dark, head to Bar Americano, where flower power and the 1960s still live on.  The bar's psychedelic décor will take anyone back to the time of bell bottoms and hippies. 

Fonzy Bar brings nostalgia back another decade, where rock n' roll music of the 1950s plays over the loud speakers.  Fonzy closed on Sundays and Mondays. 

The Hemingway Restaurant and Lounge is a bar that wants to be a dance club.  Friday night features jazz music, Saturday is all about tropical sounds, and on Sundays there is a buffet with live music.  Dancing is always encouraged. 

Gosier's Zoo Rock Cafe is a fun join that has its own rum distillery.  Live music plays here on weekends, and there are theme parties throughout the week. 

Nightclubs 

Le Cheyenne is one of Guadeloupe's more interesting nightclubs.  It is Native American themed, with Native American artwork décor.  One side of the building is a techno club, while the other is a restaurant that serves up Creole cuisine. 

Lovers of salsa and Latin dancing should head to Lollapalooza in Gosier, where Latin beats ring out, urging patrons to dance.  The walls are decorated with images of Cuba's Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. 

Zenith in  Bas-du-Fort is a popular dance club that tends to go in and out of style with the locals.  Still, visitors can't help but have a good time. 

There are a few more nightclubs worth visiting, including La Cascade, New Land,  Pharaon, and Vol du Nuit in the Gosier area;  Espace Vaneau in Bouillante; Shivas in Le Moule; Cararet in Abymes; Palace in Ste. Anne; and L'Extase in Jarry.

Other After Dark Entertainment

If you enjoy the performance arts, there are a few options.  Centre des Arts is the center of the island's performance arts scene.  There are constantly art openings, theatrical performances, and live concerts going on here.  The Eden Palm Theater is another great choice, where patrons are served a meal while they enjoy a Caribbean music review, which is heavily influenced by Cuban styles. 

It is possible that nowhere in the Caribbean enjoys a night out dancing as much as the people of Guadeloupe do.  This is great for vacationers get to reap the benefits of a nightlife that is active, but not out of control.
