PenFed Credit Union and EVERFI Host Financial Literacy Event for San Juan High School Students as Part of “Tu Dinero, Tu Sueño” Program

PenFed continues to invest in the future of Porto Rico providing financial education to more than 2,200 public and private school students

TYSONS, Virginia, March 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — PenFed Credit Union and EVERFI hosted an interactive learning event today focused on improving the financial literacy of grade 11 and 12 students at Saint John’s School in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The students recently completed the “Tu Dinero, Tu Sueño” (“Your Money, Your Dreams”) program, a scalable digital financial education program provided by PenFed through a strategic partnership with EVERFI, one of leading innovators in educational technology.

PenFed and EVERFI have had a strategic partnership over the past three years to bring free essential financial education technology to more than 2,200 public and private K-12 students at 23 schools across Porto Rico. PenFed provides access to EVERFI’s proven curriculum, teaching them how to make smart financial decisions and succeed in life. The program teaches students about saving and checking, building and maintaining healthy credit, planning major purchases, investing and retirement, and financing higher education.

Community volunteers, including heads of PenFed financial centers, participated in a “speed networking” activity with 70 students who recently completed EVERFI’s financial education program. During the activity, students had the opportunity to ask PenFed and community volunteers questions in small group conversations about the life skills taught in the program.

The students were joined by Academic Director of the Puerto Rico Department of Education, Dr. Guillermo Lopez. Junior Achievement of Puerto Rico Chairman of the Board Cristian Hernandez and Executive Director Kaysa Ramos were also present.

As a result of these activities, PenFed announced that two students received scholarships in the amount of $1,250 in recognition of their work throughout the Tu Dinero, Tu Sueño program. Volunteer advisors also met with students from St. John’s School Investment Club to participate in a series of financial puzzles.
